CURRENTLY

Gwen enjoys slow crafts and outdoor activities. She can often be found hiking the many Oregon trails and documenting the experience through sketching and painting, often accompanied by her dog, Beverly.

On rainy days, she spends time renovating and decorating a 1925 Portland bungalow.

HISTORY

Gwen spent her childhood in Boulder, CO where she developed a love of art, nature and science.  She went on to received her Bachelor's of Arts from Grinnell College in Mathematics and Studio Art.  After several years in the publishing and education industries her desire to combine these two disparate disciplines sparked an interest in textile design; which combines the artistic nature of creating imagery with the mathematical thought of repeat making and using new technology.

Gwen earned her Master of Science in Textile Design from Jefferson (Philadelphia University) in 2013.  She spent 10 years in the textiles industry as a designer, developer, colorist, digital print SME and innovator. In 2020 Gwen co-founded Sister Sumac a natural dye print design studio.
